Getting ready to go!

How hectic it is every time I get ready to leave! So many things to get done. I am really thrilled to be packing full sets of books to be taking to the children in the Mekoriyuk School on Nunivak. This is going to be a real adventure for us as we don't know how the Nuniwarmiuts live, eat, or dress.
I just pray the people accept us and don't mind us coming to see them. I am anxious for our time with be a joy to us all. As I have travel to many places in the world I have always worked hard to watch what is culturally acceptable to them and not to offend them in their ways. After all, we are the outsiders coming into their lives and homes. It is our responsibility to make ourselves aware of them and their ways. We Americans often think it is the other way around.
Today I will pack 50 sets of books, audio books, lesson guides and a few other things we plan on taking such as Star Bucks Coffee as I happen to know my dear Friend and collaborator for the past few years loves her Star Bucks. We have to see how much all this will weigh.
Mom and I are not in the greatest of health but we will not let that stop us. I walk with two Canadian crutches and she is 74 years old. We are still determined to get books into the hands of these children.
I will keep writing as this trip gets closer, if for no other reason than to keep my own thoughts and mind organized for what lies ahead!

Well...it has been a while since I have last posted. I have been running around like a crazy woman. Those who know me know that is really no excuse as I act like a crazy woman anyway!

The things I have been concentrating on with all the book releases are of course getting the world out there about the materials is I can have these books in homes and classrooms for children. My gaol and passion is for literacy and other subjects that are often left out of other curricula. I hate when that happens! Things left out. We need the children to be exposed to science, geography, history and more.

Okay, so first I don't get many interviews and then I get two TV interviews in Arizona in August. Remember I am from Colorado. So there we go...to Phoenix. Wow!!!!! 109! Get out into the heat...I felt like I was being baked into a crispy critter. I don't do heat well to say the very least. I would dash from air conditioned area to air conditioned area. Now I know why the roadrunners run so fast...to keep their little roadrunner feet from frying. I noticed the quail run a lot too. That should have been my first clue.

Not really as I grew up in Tucson. Funny how I never remembered it being so hot. I guess it was not as hot as we lived up in the foothills overlooking Tucson and that was forty some odd year ago...when there were still dinosaurs roaming the earth.

The TV Interviews went very well. It was fun and always exciting. I still have a hard time believing I have released three books, three lesson guides and three audio books. It has a feeling of being surreal for me. A lifetime dream come true.

This week it is crunch time again as mom and I get ready for a huge adventure. We are off next Saturday for Seattle, Anchorage, Bethel, Nunivak Island, Kasilof, Alaska. I am taking sets of books and audio books for all the children on Nunivak in Mekoriyuk. These are the special people I wrote about in my Nuni of Nunivak Island. I will actually get to go there and meet the people, see a bit of the Island and understand more about what I am writing about. We are getting very excited!

I need to begin my day so I will end here for now. It is time for my doggies to have their breakfast and for us to go for a run. They never let me forget what time it is. Dogs are great that way...they always keep one accountable.
